The EDCO Family of Companies
In 1960, Drury University students Ron Elkins and Perry Davis created a fictitious company for an accounting project. Combining their knowledge of microfilm and medicine, they created EDCO (Elkins & Davis Company), a business that microfilmed medical records. Together, they realized microfilming medical records could improve patient care and productivity. They earned an “A” in the class.  Following graduation, Elkins and Davis made EDCO a reality in 1961.  When the demand for microfilm diminished in the 1990s, EDCO began transitioning to electronic imaging and invested in large, high-volume scanners.

The Path to Continued Growth
In 2001, investors Bill Glassman and Jim Rosenbloom purchased a majority of the company and the name changed to EDCO Group Inc.  In 2006, the Elkins family retired and Glassman became the CEO of EDCO.  The following year, EDCO acquired ABI™ Document Support Services, a family operated business as a records retrieval service.

The conception of ABI began with California’s first female private investigator Alice Benge’s desire to obtain medical records to settle her cases more efficiently.  Prior to 1981, the closest records retrieval firm was located about 60 miles away in Los Angeles. Benge opened Alice Benge Investigations (ABI) in Redlands, California to better obtain medical records in a timely manner.  Since then, the company has grown rapidly in large part to the organization’s continued commitment to develop innovative technology, such as eSummary by ABI.

In 2008, EDCO acquired Solcom® Inc., a company founded in 1995 by three International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) employees with more than 30 years of combined experience.  They recognized that the healthcare industry was not using electronic document management to its fullest potential and pledged to develop software with a better user interface and automated workflow that would alleviate their customer’s needs.  With the goal to develop proprietary technology that would enable healthcare facilities to scan and index medical records without the customary bar code, they developed EDCO’s Solarity™ technology.   This technology was also the catalyst for the creation of eSummary by ABI™, the industry’s most advanced web-based tool for organizing and summarizing records for law firms and insurance clients.  Today, the founders of Solcom are key drivers of EDCO’s development team.

The merging and collaboration of these various companies contributes to EDCO Group Inc.’s ability to offer advanced solutions to benefit the healthcare, legal, and insurance industries.
